Jim Chu


Jim served for 36 years with the Vancouver Police Department, including as Chief Constable from 2007 to 2015. He was elected President of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police from 2012 to 2014. Following his retirement from policing in 2015, Jim spent 10 years in the private sector before retiring again in 2025.

He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of British Columbia. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Executive Institute.

Jim has received several honors, including an honorary doctorate from the Justice Institute of British Columbia, the Outstanding Alumni Award from Simon Fraser University, and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. In 2010, he was named one of 25 Transformational Canadians by The Globe and Mail. He was also invested as a Commander of the Order of Merit of the Police Services by the Governor General.

Throughout his career, Jim has actively contributed to a range of boards and organizations. Notably, he served on the boards of the Streetohome Foundation, the Justice Institute of British Columbia, and TransLink, the regional transportation authority in Vancouver. From 2021 to 2025, he served as Chair of the British Columbia Emergency Health Services Board, which oversees one of the largest ambulance services in North America.
